2023 fishing trip

To the Heart and Soul of PPX

As I look back on our 2023 Employee Appreciation Fishing Trip, I’m reminded of a fundamental truth that guides every decision I make as your President: Our people are our greatest asset. While our competitors focus on spreadsheets and hardware, we focus on the human engine that drives those numbers.

In a high-growth environment like PPX, we operate on a simple, non-negotiable mantra: We work hard, and we play harder. But “playing harder” isn’t just about blowing off steam; it’s about the strategic necessity of appreciation.

The Philosophy of the "Off-Site"

Many companies view a weekend on the water as a luxury or a line-item expense. At PPX, I view it as a vital investment in our cultural infrastructure. Why? Because the most brilliant innovations don’t always happen behind a desk—they happen when a lead developer and a junior analyst are troubleshooting a tangled fishing line together in the middle of the Gulf.

Company events like the Fishing Trip serve three critical purposes:

  • Breaking the Silos: In the office, we are often divided by departments. On the deck of a boat, those walls vanish. When you’re bracing against the swell to help a colleague land a catch, you aren’t “Sales” or “Operations”—you’re a teammate.
  • The “Decompression” Necessity: We ask for excellence every day. To sustain that level of intensity, we must provide the space to decompress. True creativity requires a change of scenery, and there is no better “reset” than the horizon of the open sea.
  • Humanizing the Hustle: It’s easy to forget the person behind the email. Seeing the joy on your faces when we hit the open water reminds me why I fight for this company. You aren’t just staff; you are the families, the ambitions, and the talent that make PPX a leader in our field.

Reflections on 2023: More Than Just Fish

The 2023 Fishing Trip was a masterclass in our “Play Harder” spirit. Watching this team transition from the high-stakes pressure of our recent product launch to the pure, unadulterated competitive fun of the “Biggest Catch” tournament was a highlight of my career.

Appreciation is the fuel that prevents burnout. It’s the acknowledgment that while the work is hard, the rewards are shared. When we celebrated on the docks at sunset, it wasn’t just about the fish we caught; it was about the bonds we strengthened. Those bonds are what allow us to tackle the impossible challenges that Monday morning inevitably brings.

Our Commitment to You

As we move toward the final quarters of the year, let the memory of the salt air and the shared laughter serve as a reminder: You are seen, you are valued, and your hard work does not go unnoticed.

We will continue to push the boundaries of what PPX can achieve because I know I have the best crew in the world standing behind me. We will continue to outwork the competition, and I promise you, we will continue to out-celebrate them, too.

Thank you for your grit, your passion, and for making the 2023 Fishing Trip a legendary chapter in our history.

Onward and Upward,
The President of PPX
